First Listen: Toni Braxton and H.E.R. “Move On” with great collabo

(September 6, 2020) Toni Braxton’s new album, Spell My Name, has gotten mixed reviews, with some fans calling it her best album in a decade and others saying it doesn’t match up. But for my money there are some absolutely great cuts that fit Braxton’s stature and maturity quite nicely.

One of the most pleasant surprises, though, was her collaboration with a star of the next generation, H.E.R. “Gotta Move On” is a moody, low-tempo number about a woman who knows she needs to leave a relationship gone sour.

The song has a modern R&B feel without pandering – much like much of the music that H.E.R. has delivered over the past couple of years to deserved praise.

This is a number that sounds better with repeated listenings, and it is a beautiful marriage of two meaningful artists at different stages of their careers. Check out “Gotta Move On” below and tell us what you think.
