First Listen: Timotha Lanae sings to address the tragedies

(July 25, 2016) We first introduced SoulTrackers to Minneapolis-based singer and songwriter Timotha Lanae a few years ago when she released her excellent album, Red. She was nominated for a SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award and we continued to follow her closely when she released the EP Rewind a year later.

Timotha continues to record and perform with success, even as she observes troubles in our nation today. The killing of Philando Castile took place in her hometown, and moved her to write about it.  As she tells us, “Music is therapy for me, and with so many tragic events happening throughout the country, I turned to music.  Creating this song was a way for me to constructively express my emotions. My hope is that it will bring comfort to others and ignite a productive conversation that brings us closer to a better future.”

Listen to her new song, “Philando (We Speak Your Name),” below.
