(December 28, 2021) Resonating with a glowing Ariana Grande vocal presence, Tiana Kocher is that rising artist to look out for. She first made noise back in 2018 with her very first single, “Just My Type,” a sexy R&B jam full of SWV swag. And the adorable concept video directed by Ali Zamani most certainly helped with the buzz, especially with its impressive slate of cameo celeb appearances from Marlon Wayans, Rob Schneider and Brely Evans. Since then, she’s worked with TLC’s T-Boz & Chili and Faith Evans, opened up for A$AP Rocky in Manila and even had her music featured in a Ciroc commercial.
After sharing time between her homeland in the Philippines and Los Angeles honing on her songwriting craft during the pandemic, Kocher is now putting time and energy into her forthcoming sophomore LP (due in earlier 2022). And “Westside,” the first single to hatch from its nest, ascends with musical growth as it finds her in a more restrained and vulnerable setup. Slipping into SZA’s “The Weekend” sultriness and the hookah lounge soul of Ari’s Positions, Kocher explores deep levels of throbbing passion (“I want all of you…You’ve been on my mind every day and night/I’m thinking of the times when held me tight”) while riding a crest of smooth summery vibes.
