First Listen: Thundercat, Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins want to “Show You The Way”

March 15, 2017 — Stephen Bruner, professionally known as Thundercat, is a 32-year old singer/songwriter and bassist from Los Angeles. He made his mark initially in the underground LA music scene as the formidable bass player of the band Suicidal Tendencies and has worked with a host of A-list artists over the last 10 years, including Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, Childish Gambino and Kamasi Washington.

More recently, Thundercat is credited with helping to shape the sounds and textures of  Kendrick Lamar’s album, To Pimp A Butterfly, earning the Cat a Grammy award in 2016 for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration on the track “These Walls.”  He has recorded 3 albums, the most recent of which, Drunk, was released last month and has to date reached #20 on the Billboard R&B album chart.

We feature here the lead single, “Show You The Way,” from his new album.  Co-written with the great Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, who trade verses with Thundercat on vocals, the track is awash in warm and soulful 70’s atmospherics and is anchored by the Cat’s thick and resonant bass lines. Enjoy.
