(March 23, 2026) One of the keys to bring a great songwriter is the ability to effectively paint a picture that brings the lyrics to life. Being descriptive, displaying imagery, setting the stage and creatively expressing feelings can take the song from good to great. For Thomas Hunter, a soul music veteran, displaying the aforementioned characteristics seemed easy for him on his latest single, “Steppin’ All Night.”
A borderline ballad that’s steeped in Southern Soul, “Steppin’ All Night” is as detailed as it gets. From describing his shoes, to the venue, to the music, to the feelings involved, Hunter’s ability to capture a perfect night out is apparent. Such eloquent songwriting is complimented by an arrangement which is driven by strong percussion. A passionate yet effortless vocal performance by Hunter puts the icing on the cake. This is a song that blues, R&B and soul fans will all gravitate to, as the song is able to cross genres and draw listeners in.
After 2023’s “Unforgettable Moments,” Thomas Hunter’s return with “Steppin’ All Night” is a welcome return. While some can write a great song, and others can sing a great song, Hunter is able to do both with this single, and hopefully we may see a full length project from him soon.
