(May 20, 2026) Thee Sinseers are more than a band. They are a band that embodies and represents the culture, history and politics of their East Los Angeles neighborhood. This is despite not being a band that makes overtly political music.
The sound that comes from Thee Sinseers is quintessentially East L.A. It’s the analog, doo-wop, brassy brand R&B that you might hear coming from the stereos of low rider Impalas and Caddies cruising through East L.A. It’s the music played at a Quinceañera. Thee Sinseers embrace the sound that identifies a sense of place, which is the Chicano Movement of the mid-20th Century that centered Mexican American identity, labor rights, cultural pride, and political empowerment.
The musical soundtrack was the R&B and soul music of the 1960s and 70s, originally from groups like Bloodstone, and there are plenty of Lowrider mix tapes circulating on You Tube. Thee Sinseers captures that lush sound of that era in the original music that’s heard on projects like 2024’s Sinseerly Yours and Love Stories, their new album that will drop on Sept. 18.
In our latest, we feature Thee Sinseers’ lead single, “Did Ya Know.” This is a classically lush soul ballad that has a steppers pace and features the soaring and angelic falsetto of Joseph Quinones. The video is set at a house party where men gather around a table where the dominoes are set up, friends greet each other at the door, and couples snuggle into a spot on a couch. It’s the kind of event where a great song like “Did Ya Know” would be played. Check out “Did Ya Know” by Thee Sinseers here.
