First Look: The Group Fire brings classic R&B vibe to Gospel

(September 30, 2024) For those who grouse that the vocal harmonies and showmanship of the male vocal groups that dominated the 1970s and arose again in the 1990s are now gone, well…you need to check out The Group Fire.

Known mostly among Gospel circles, the quintet, composed of two sets of brothers—Terelle, Justin, and Juwan Cooper, along with Tajohn and Al-Shamir Hill – has been slowly amassing a legion of fans over the past decade. And with the singing prowess of all-time groups from The Spinners to Boyz II Men, TGF is now making big inroads into the R&B world.

The group’s latest single, “About Last Night,” takes the familiar road of recalling an encounter from the evening before, and twists it into a tale of finding a true love…of Christ.

The application of R&B vibes to spiritual songs was mastered a generation ago by The Winans, and The Group Fire serves as talented heirs to that pioneering style. Check out “About Last Night” below, and welcome The Group Fire back to SoulTracks.
