First Listen: The Commotions show off their “New Suit”

(November 16, 2020) Swinging with a new single that is equal parts retro and progressive are The Commotions, an 11 piece band led by Musical Director Brian Asselin. After a three year hiatus, they are back preparing for a new album and are giving a sneak peek with “New Suit,” an ironically themed song considering our current pandemic state.

“New Suit” is a uptempo jam that is three minutes and four seconds full of big sounds, powerful vocals and an arrangement that recalls ’50s era Isley Brothers with slices of the B52s and Jamiroquai mixed in as well.  Touring with the legendary Funk Brothers translates into a hot horn section led by Augie Bello, which is emphasized throughout the track to keep a scintillating pace. Telling the tale of how clothes can re-energize a man, “New Suit” effectively reminds us how “every girl is crazy ’bout a sharp dressed guy.”

The first single from an untitled album set for a 2021 release, “New Suit” lets us know that style can sound just as good as it can look!
