(April 18, 2022) The world is trying to emerge from two years of being locked down, masked up and social distanced. Progress comes in fit and starts. One city lifts restrictions as another town tells citizens they need to put their masks back on.
One thing is clear, however. The people are ready to move on. Singers have a way of using music to reflect the people’s mood, so when Terri Green and Randy Hall start “Turnt Up Tonight,” the new single from The Terri Green Project, with a dialog about how long they have been waiting to get on the dance floor, steppers worldwide nodded their heads in agreement and to the beat.
For more than a decade Green and her long time collaborator, saxophonist Toddi Reed, have made some beautiful music together as the Terri Green Project, and the band showcases its diversity with the new single “Turnt Up Tonight.” Like the group’s last single, “Sneaking Out,” “Turnt Up Tonight” is a jam made for people who like to dance.
However, Green and her duet partner Randy Hall aim this song toward the steppers. Lushly arranged by Green, Toddi Reed and Reginald Staggers, “Turnt Up Tonight” is a brassy and fun song that tells the story of a couple enjoying themselves on the dance floor. “Turnt Up Tonight” is a tune for those who prefer the type of dancing that can’t be done from a social distance.
