(September 10, 2026) It’s amazing that Chicago-based singer/songwriter Terisa Griffin has been part of our lives for two decades. And all these years later, she is more anachronistic than ever. A modern singer whose embrace of the glamor and soulfulness of yore is both authentic and convincing, she remains an artist who is virtually timeless.
Griffin has also grown as a songwriter over the years, able to weave dramatic stories that cross musical boundaries of soul, dance, rock and blues. And it is on the blues side of that spectrum that she arrives with her newest single. Co-written with Lorenzo Johnson, “I Just Want To Know” is a challenge to another – could be a lover, could be an employer, could be a stranger on the street – to look beyond her exterior and see her as she really is:
When you see me,
You don’t see a woman.
You see everything you fear
Before you see who I am.
As always, Griffin’s vocals capture the ache of the protagonist, a woman who is frustrated by the barriers we create through judgments of skin, gender or accent. And it is another musical tour de force by a performer whose artistry just keeps growing.
