First Listen: Korean soul singer Tannamu asks the right question

(January 2, 2026) With only two EP’s containing two songs each, Tannamu’s artistic vision was already blessed and ready to roll.  For starters, the name Tannamu translates to ‘Burnt Tree,’ “speaking to what remains in the ashes of the past,” which has inspired his small but gripping catalog.  And the South Korean music producer embraces that meaning wholeheartedly, shaping his songs into mini movies where organic soundtracks zeroes in to what lies inside every mindful intension.

Tannamu’s debut in 2023, “On Second Thought, is powered by an intimate jazz blues vibe with quirky synthesizers slices – probing what might have been when the mind goes into deeper territory (I don’t have any thoughts these days / But there are times when thoughts float in.”)

SoulTracks and First Listen now welcome Tannamu with the pressing sequel to “On Second Thought.” “What Made Us Stay for All This Time? (self-released under license to MO Records) reveals a deep regret in how those second thoughts never came to light when the love counts:

Why did I wait so long? Now that chance is gone/
I kept it in all along, words I cannot reclaim/
Moments slipped away, nothing left for me to say/
Emptiness fills my heart.

Vocalist Dahyeon Lee’s serene voice carries the heavy lyrics, backed by a soft R&B soundtrack featuring Headeun Choi (electric piano), Hwansu Kang (bass guitar), Joe-Neil Solan (drums) and  producer/songwriter, Tannamu, dropping thick synthesizer passages to spark the mood.  Take a listen to figure out “What made us stay for all this time?”
