First Listen: Music Royalty Sybil Thomas keeps it “Fired Up”

sybilthomas

(March 12, 2020) Sybil Thomas is musical royalty. As the daughter of the legendary Stax Records artist Rufus Thomas (“Walking The Dog”) and the sister Carla Thomas (“Gee Whiz”), she certainly grew up in a musical environment.

She first came to the attention of soul music lovers when she joined the iconic group The Platters in the 1970s as the female lead, and she has supported many of soul music’s all-time greats, from Peabo Bryson to Phyllis Hyman. She also has had her own hits, with “Rescue Me” and “Do It To the Music” making waves around the world.

Sybil is now back with a new album, Breathe, and she shows her skills with the first single, the bouncy “Keep It Fired Up.” Sounding like a classic Pointer Sisters jam from the 80s, the song is both fun and funky, and makes it tough to avoid jamming to the beat.

It is great to hear new music from Sybil Thomas. Check it out below and tell us what you think!
