First Listen: Stone City Band’s Stone Paxton is “Caught In The Storm”

(May 2, 2026) “Caught In The Storm,” the new single by Stone Paxton, is smooth. The tune has a mid-tempo pace where the drums and bass provide a grooving foundation for jazz infused guitar work and the atmospheric keyboard work floats above it all.

There’s a lot going on instrumentally, but it doesn’t feel overproduced. The arrangement gives the tune intimacy and that’s a setup for the conversation that Paxton is having as he tries to figure out the next and proper steps in the relationship with the woman with whom he is involved. Should he take the relationship to the next level, give it more time, or break it off?

The conflicting emotions can make a person feel like they’re caught in a storm. He’s in that place where mindfulness and reflection can be interpreted as a lack of interest. That’s a problem because the man is interested.

“Caught In The Storm” shows the pensive and vulnerable side of a multi-faceted artist. Paxton learned that eclecticism from one of the best to ever do it – Rick James. Paxton performed as a member of the Stone City Band, so he saw James tear through funky numbers like “You and I” and “Cold Blooded,” and then woo the ladies with “Ebony Eyes” and “Fire and Desire.” Paxton learned well.
