(October 14, 2020) It’s been too long since we heard new music from soul icon Stevie Wonder, but today, with the release of the singles “Where Is Our Love Song” and “Can’t Put It In the Hands of Fate,” Wonder returns to the forefront. Just as notably, he makes his first releases under his own So What’s The Fuss label, his first foray outside of Motown, where he recorded since he hit the spotlight at age 11, an incredible six decade collaboration.
“Where Is Our Love Song,” a song that sat unfinished for decades, was recently completed with guitarist Gary Clark, Jr., and has the feel of Wonder’s early 90s work. Lamenting the troubles in the current world situation the track is both beautiful and thoughtful, and captures a classic lyrical theme of many of Wonder’s best song. More directly addressing today’s social unrest is “Can’t Put It In The Hands of Fate,” featuring Rapsody, Busta Rhymes, Chika and Cordae. A blend of R&B and hip-hop, it celebrates current protests as a way of addressing injustices that won’t go away themselves.
The musical world needs Stevie Wonder’s voice, and our hope is that these two timely releases will open the door to more new music from him soon. Check them out below and tell us what you think.
