In 2010, Stephanie Mills began publicizing a forthcoming new album entitled Breathless. But after the well-received “Yesterday” and a holiday single in 2012 (“So in Love This Christmas”), all recording activity seemed to come to a standstill. Perhaps, though, Mills’ recent appearance on NBC’s The Wiz Live! has kickstarted her into completing the set, as she recently unveiled her first new cut in several years via “Afraid to Love,” a duet with her cousin K-Ci Hailey from Jodeci and K-Ci and JoJo.
Produced by Hiriam Hicks (Bell Biv DeVoe, Dru Hill) and Richard Williams, the straight-shooting midtempo cut finds both vocalists pouring their heart and soul into a lyric about the challenges of rising above emotionally damaging relationship wounds. Take a listen to the tune below and let us know what you think!
