(November 11, 2022) We’ve been fans of Memphis-based band supreme Southern Avenue since we premiered their first single a few years ago, and it is a big deal for us every time they issue something new.
While Southern Avenue is known for their original material, they’ve also shown their skills interpreting the songs of others, and that is what they do again on their brand new single, a cover of the 1983 Genesis hit “That’s All.” Inspired by vocalist Tierinii Jackson’s love of the music of Phil Collins, Southern Avenue keeps the bouncy pop beat of the original version, but adds layered backing vocals and a funkier bass line, giving is a distinctly R&B vibe that works great. Tikyra Jackson tells us, “The soundtracks from my favorite childhood films happen to be written by Phil Collins and as kid I would have never imagined a full circle moment such as recording this song in the studio. The modern nostalgia you didn’t know you needed.”
This is good stuff. Check out This new take on an old favorite, and welcome Southern Avenue back to SoulTracks.
