First Listen: SounDoctrine and Gail Harris walk a “Tightrope”

(April 7, 2026) Have you ever seen someone walk a tightrope?  If so, you probably held your breath, hoping the person didn’t fall before reaching the goal.  The uneasy feeling that can come with falling in love is explored on “Tightrope,” the newest release by SounDoctrine, an award-winning band of alternative Funk/Jazz fusionists.  Jere B, the founder of SounDoctrine and the song’s arranger/producer, said the emotional ballad is an “anthem of the almost.”  You could say it’s for anyone who’s almost in love but is scared to fully commit to the idea.

“Tightrope” was written by Gail Harris, who was a memberof the group 2 Elegant alongside her sister Angela.  Gail’s beautiful voice narrates this story of contemplation versus commitment. Will she take the leap of faith to pursue love or stay in her comfort zone so she doesn’t get hurt? The song provides an outlet for Gail to sing out her options, so to speak, and make the best decision.

Jere B has nothing but praise for Gail when recalling the recording session for “Tightrope,” which took place two decades ago.  He said there was an “incredible essence” that poured out of her in the recording because she knew the pain of the lyrics.  Unfortunately, in the time since, Gail has fallen on hard times, but videos have been posted online of her singing in good voice on the streets of downtown LA.  So Jere’s prayer is that, as he releases songs from their vault, “the magnificence of the music reawakens Gail to who she truly is and creates an opportunity for them to work together again.”

Listen to the magnificence of “Tightrope” here.
