(July 11, 2017) Many SoulTrackers will know the Sons of Serendip from their brilliant performances on Season 9 of America’s Got Talent or from our earlier reviews of their unusual work. A unique blend of piano, cello, harp and vocals, they turned ordinary musical classification on its ear as they interpreted pop and soul classics and created new music of their own. Their debut album was an unadulterated smash, and Micah (vocals), Cordaro (piano), Kendall (cello) and Mason (harp) are now in demand around the world.

For their latest single, the quartet tried an ambitious cover of a neo-soul favorite, “This Woman’s Work.” It is the first from their upcoming album, Life + Love. They tell us, “We are drawn to songs that are moving and have deep meaning. There are very few songs that can move the heart the way that ‘Woman’s Work’ can. The song is deep. We wanted to arrange the song in a way that captured the ache in both Kate Bush’s original song and Maxwell’s rendition, while at the same time making it our own. Maxwell’s version features the harp, so we kept that element similar to his. From there, we built around it –mainly through improvisation- until the pieces started to come together. Once the track was recorded, our pianist, Cordaro Rodriguez, added production to draw out the emotion of the song even more. We’re happy with how it turned out.”

We’re pretty moved by this new version of an old favorite, and we think you will be too. Check out “This Woman’s Work” below and tell us what you think!
