(August 10, 2025) My Mother’s Favorites and a Few of Mine, the new album by Son of Pearl, honors his late mother and the role she played in his formative years, while also showing how those songs influenced his later work.
Son of Pearl remakes and reimagines the tunes he grew up hearing, as well as new originals written for this project. Son of Pearl infuses each track with his signature amalgamation of R&B, rock, funk, blues, and jazz that he dubs “Mellowfunkism.”
“So Addicted 2 U,” the track featured in this First Listen, lands squarely in funk territory. It’s a throwback to that era of infectious, danceable brand of sleek, bass and synth driven funk that drew us to the dance floor in the 1980s. “So Addicted 2 U” is pure escapist fun as Son of Pearl tells the story of a woman who leaves him so thoroughly smitten that can only describe her impact as intoxicating.
