(August 19, 2026) Have you ever been fed up and felt like, “Enough is enough”? If you’ve ever gotten to that point in a relationship (personal or professional), you know it’s time to make a change because the situation is disturbing your peace. The latest single by Chicago-based vocalist, songwriter, and cultural storyteller Simone Green addresses this common experience.
In her song titled “Breathe,” Simone makes it clear that she has taken all she can take from her relationship. Though love exists, she realizes that the relationship is not serving her well; it’s become a toxic environment. She wants to reclaim control of her life, and understands that the only way to do so is to walk away from the one who has been holding her down. According to the lyrics, she had this aha moment before changing her last name. Simone sings with the confidence, resilience and strength of someone embracing her power.
Written by Simone along with Jeffrey Dillard, who produced the track, “Breathe” was “inspired by the complicated and sometimes intense relationship issues and the healing that a woman has to experience.” This single – which is sure to resonate with many – comes from Simone’s new album, BLACK QUEEN.
Explaining the inspiration behind this project, Simone says: “After everything I’ve experienced in my own life—from surviving breast cancer twice, to building businesses, leading bands, and navigating an industry that often asks women, especially Black women, to make themselves smaller—I wanted to create a body of work that celebrates our power instead of our pain.” She adds: “This album is a love letter to Black women who have earned every crown they wear.”
