First Listen: Sid Sriram wows us when he “Sings About Me”

He’s the 2012 SoulTracks Editor’s Choice for Artist of the Year and with this latest video release Sid Sriram proves that we didn’t err in judgment. Mashing up the Leon Russell classic made famous by Donny Hathaway, “A Song for You,” with the new hip hop classic by rapper wunderkind Kendrick Lamar, “Sing About Me,” Sriram takes the essence of both songs’ themes of posthumous remembrance and love and makes something new.

Gloriously sung and emotionally powerful, like BJ the Chicago Kid and Allen Stone, this talented twenty-something reminds us that there are plenty among the new generation who gets it. We’ve just got to trust them to deliver. Keep on the lookout for Sid Sriram’s forthcoming project; in the meantime, enjoy this FREE live set from the young star.
