(November 1, 2021) SoulTrackers know that we’ve been fans of singer extraordinaire Shirley Jones since back in the day when she sang with her sisters Valorie and Brenda as part of the legendary Jones Girls. And we’ve been very happy as Shirley has been recording more actively over the past few years.
Shirley has been working her In Loving Tribute album, in memory of Brenda and Valorie, both of whom are sadly gone. The album is planned for release in 2022, but that doesn’t mean we have to wait until then to hear new music from Shirley.
“Soul Steppin'” is designed to give us a fun retreat from what Shirley calls the “challenge overload” of the past couple of years. It is a classy midtempo that has the feel of The Jones Girls’ classic Philly singles, and should find a welcoming audience with steppers around the world.
Shirley sounds great as always, and the single gets us excited to hear the rest of In Loving Tribute. Check it out below and welcome the legendary Shirley Jones back to SoulTracks.
