First Listen: Sheena O. Murray takes us “On A High”
Sheena O. Murray was born in Kingston, Jamaica and spent her youth in Brooklyn and then in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. And what is often the case with children who move a lot, and especially those who come from a different country, Murray was shy. However, she also had a lot to say from an artistic standpoint.
When the music of Whitney Houston or Toni Braxton came on the radio, the shyness melted away and Murray wanted to dance with someone who loved her, or she was telling a straying guy that love should have brought him home last night, right along with her musical heroines. However, Murray also realized that she had to take her talent out of the house if she would ever reach her goal. There were baby steps at first – writing song lyrics and poetry, performing in the chorus in school musicals, joining girl groups, but a career as a solo artist was Murray’s true calling and she has answered it with an EP titled SOMone. One of the tracks from that CD is “On A High” a number that pairs an acoustic guitar O’Murray’s emotive vocals that might remind some of another sister of the Caribbean, Abby Dobson. Check it out.
