(October 1, 2020) If you’ve seen Selina Albright perform, you remember it. The multi-octave voiced singer has had her own hits, such as 2010’s “You And I” and 2016’s “Sun Comes Up,” but it is in her live shows around the world where she has perhaps made the biggest impact, whether as a solo performer, in duo shows with her father, saxman supreme Gerald Albright, or in multi-artist shows with the some of the biggest contemporary jazz artists in the world.
The Los Angeles native now has a new, independently released single that address what many folks are thinking about these days. “Holding On” begins with a gentle acoustic guitar before opening up to her impassioned vocal performance. It tells of the frustration of racial injustice, not just in the stories that hit the newspapers, but in the day to day scars of living in a culture that sometimes doesn’t recognize and respect the contributions of all of its people.
It is a beautiful song and a powerful message. Check out “Holding On” below and welcome Selina Albright to SoulTracks!
