(October 12, 2020) Most SoulTrackers are not familiar with Kenyan afro-pop superstars Sauti Sol, but the quartet (singers Bien-Amie Baraza, Willis Chimano and Savara Mudigi, and guitarist Polycarp Otieno) has been winning awards for more than a decade.
The group’s newest album, Midnight Train, has been making waves around the world, and that should only increase with their new collaboration with India.Arie. The resulting song, “My Everything,” is a wonderful mix of African instrumentation and US soul music, and the vocal performances are stunning in their elegance. And its message, about a lover giving his everything, including his respect, to his woman, is a welcome one.
We simply love this midtempo number, and think it is a great SoulTracks introduction to Sauti Sol. Check out “My Everything” below, and tell us what you think.
