(February 23, 2026) One of Stevie Wonder’s most famous ballads is “Ribbon in the Sky.” It’s been played at numerous weddings and anniversaries since the 1980’s. This classic love song has staying power, which is proven anytime an artist does his or her own rendition of it.
After generating much anticipation, legendary jazz/R&B saxophonist Ronnie Laws has gifted us with his new version of “Ribbon in the Sky,” and it features a very special group of people – his sister Debra Laws and his musical brothers Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind & Fire, Howard Hewett, and Stevie Wonder himself.
Ronnie brings the sax, Howard and Debra provide vocals, Larry is on keyboard, and Stevie adds his signature harmonica to this cover of his own song. It’s spectacular to have five talented artists on one record but what’s even more beautiful is the reason they came together. When asking Ronnie what inspired him to remake “Ribbon in the Sky,” he said: “This was one of my wife’s favorite songs. After her passing, I did it as a tribute to her, the love of my life.”
If that doesn’t pull on your heartstrings, I don’t know what will. Ronnie and his wife Karmen were married 53 years, and his love for her is as strong as ever despite her absence. His tender version of “Ribbon in the Sky” is living proof of that. Ironically, this song debuts 50 years after the 1976 release of “Karmen,” a song that Ronnie wrote and dedicated to his wife.
With that said, all that’s left to do is let your ears hear this renewed masterpiece by Ronnie Laws and friends. Enjoy the song and music video below!
