First Listen: Philly soul man Ron Ellison wants to “Listen”

ronellison

(August 15, 2020) Ron Ellison is a well-traveled performer, but with a voice that sounds as fresh and strong is he was just starting out in his native Chicago. Ellison vocal talents took him to Philadelphia where he was a part of that city’s vibrant soul scene as the studio voice for the legendary Delfonics.

These days, Ellison lives in San Francisco and his sweet falsetto has opened shows for Smokey Robinson  and the SOS Band. Now, Ellison has released a new single “Listen.” The tune is an old-fashioned love ballad that features call and response between Ellison and backing vocalists; his strong and rangy falsetto brings to mind some of soul music’s great falsetto voices. “Listen” finds Ellison laying It on the line to a young lady as he uses what little time he has in his busy life to try to get some understanding about the state of their relationship.

Time spent listening to this throwback jam is definitely time well spent. Check out “Listen” by Ron Ellison here.
