Singer-songwriter Rissi Palmer made her name as a bit of an anomaly: an artist whose music is an interesting mixture of soul and country. But as we’ve written about before, the two genres have much more in common than some folks think. Storytelling and a keen sense of melody spell the best of both genres, and Rissi has plenty of both in her music. She received much attention for 2007 debut, making her a pioneer as an African-American woman on the country charts.
More recently, Rissi moved from Nashville to North Carolina, married, and gave birth to her daughter. Earlier this year she released a new album, The Back Porch Sessions and we featured her song “Sweet Lovin’”
Rissi is back with a 3-song EP that celebrates the holiday season. 3 showcases Rissi’s powerful voice, backed by the guitar of legendary Nashville musician Blue Miller. And nowhere is it more enjoyable than on her terrific take on the Gospel classic, “Children Go Where I Send Thee.” We love her fresh, uncluttered approach to this song.
