(August 18, 2020) Sometimes realizing what we don’t like can be the catalyst to understanding what we do. For NYC musician/songwriter Reginald K. Son, he knew early in life that he wanted to be a musician. He was inspired so much by Prince after seeing Purple Rain that he bought a guitar. Shortly after that purchase, he determined that playing the guitar did not meet was he was looking for, and he ultimately bought keyboard and drum machine. At that point it was off to the races and he has not turned back.
K. Son has released songs with varying styles and sounds over the years, and his latest single, “This World,” is no different. Its roots in the arrangement and percussion lie in 80s/90s R&B, but there are subtle hints of smooth jazz and Latin influences that being the song full circle. Rosie Bans, a Glasgow, Scotland singer, lends her vocals and harmonies to the song, as she encourages the listener to “Get out in this world…time stands still for no one.” Their collaboration results in a mid-tempo cut that is fairly rich in melody and musicianship, while also inspiring listeners to not let anyone prevent them from accomplishing their goals.
