First Listen: Regina Troupe makes us “Happy” with new single

reginatroupe

(January 6, 2020) Sometimes there are hidden gems right under our noses, and that is the case with singer, songwriter and producer Regina Troupe. We’ve never featured Ms. Troupe before on SoulTracks, but her legacy of music is pretty incredible.

Having written and produced on two Peabo Bryson albums, after working onstage with such luminaries and Michael Franks, Kirk Whalum, After 7, Jeffrey Osborne and many others, she has truly been an “under the radar” talent. We hope that that will change with her latest album, Love Potion, a tasty combination of soul and jazz that displays the gift that Troupe brings to the table.

It all sounds great, but we think a great intro for SoulTrackers to her work is in the cool, upbeat number “Got To Be Happy.” With a sax and scat vocals opening, the cut leads into Troupe’s engaging lead and harmony vocals, and a vibe that is making us smile from ear to ear.
