First Listen: Rashaad brings old school soul to “If You Leave”

rashaad

Rashaad La’Tjuan Carlton was born in Detroit into a musical family and has been recording professionally since he was 12 years sold. He later moved to Akron, Ohio and was part of the hip-hop/R&B group AK’s Finest: 6ix Figgaz as well as a songwriter for several Gospel acts.

Rashaad later moved to California and has been a rising vocal star ever since. He formed a vocal group with R&B stalwarts Ricky Bell (New Edition), Dalvin DeGrate (Jodeci) and Shazam Conner (H-Town) called Abbey Road.

But right now we’re focusing on Rashaad’s solo work, in particular his brand new soulful ballad, “If You Leave.” It is an old school blue-lights-in-the-basement jam about love and forgiveness, and his rangy tenor up front sounds just right. He tells us about the song, “The funny thing about this song is that my good friend Cedric Snipe and I wrote it at work. We were just passing the time, never knowing that the song would be a fan favorite all over the world. Testimonials have come in that ‘If You Leave’ has literally saved marriages and affected people’s lives for the better. I’m a soul singer and that’s what true soul music is all about…”

We’re completely digging this song and we think SoulTrackers will too. Check out “If You Leave” below and tell us what you think!
