First Listen: The legendary Randy Muller returns with a “Beautiful Feelin'”

(September 28, 2017) As a prolific songwriter and producer for such influential ‘70s and ‘80s soul/funk bands as B.T. Express and Skyy—as well as founder, keyboardist, and vocalist for the groundbreaking Brass Construction, Randy Muller is no stranger to crafting and executing a feel-good groove with a funky bottom and melodic filling. His new single, showcasing the vocal talents of much-loved house diva Carolyn Harding (who first made a name for herself on cutting-edge mid-‘80s dancers such as “Memories” and “Movin’ On”), continues that tradition without coming off as a mere throwback jam.

On “Beautiful Feelin’,” the percussive sounds emanate disco and house, while Muller’s symphonically inspired keyboard arrangements match a soulful festivity to Harding’s gritty, upbeat phrasing. Nigel Lowis’s remix adds some cool guitar touches, but it’s the original ‘Philly Mix’ that best captures the optimism of the song’s lyrics and resonating melody. Take a listen below and let us know your thoughts!
