(June 17, 2026) I found myself pulling up the credits as I listened to “Four Letter Word,” the latest single from the Australian group Pro Uno. Pulling up the credits on Apple Music can be hit or miss. Sometimes, you’ll be lucky to learn the name of the songwriter, vocalist, and producer. Fortunately, Pro Uno provided a full lineup in its credits for “Four Letter Word.”
Singer/songwriter Liam Stacey and co-writer Ziggy Tockuss were rightly proud of what they, along with the 10 members of Pro Uno, produced. “Four Letter Word” is a lush, sensuously funky track about two people deciding to embrace the sweetest four-letter word in the dictionary – love.
Pro Uno stands 10 toes down on the analog side of music making on “Four Letter Word,” right down to the production techniques and equipment used to record the tune. Stacey used 1960s era quarter-inch tape and tracked it through a vintage Yamaha 1516 console.
Those production methods along with the use of instruments like violin, flute, glockenspiel, congas “Four Letter Word” a rich sound that harkens back to the days of AM radio. The lyrics blend the old school romance heard in the songbook tunes heard in those screwball romantic comedies from Hollywood’s golden age, with a healthy dollop of laid-back funky soul.
