(September 24, 2026) It’s been said that you don’t know what you had until it’s gone. And when you realize it, you want it back. That’s especially true in relationships, and R&B newcomer Prince LDJ explores that familiar feeling on his latest single, “Best I Ever Had.”
The 23-year-old vocalist from Long Island, NY – who aims to “bring real R&B back to the forefront” – pours out his heart on this track. He said he realizes that the girl he once had was the best thing that ever happened to him. Admitting he should have cherished her beforehand, he pleads for “one more chance to make it up to [her].”
“Best I Ever Had” not only highlights a familiar experience but also a familiar sound, precisely R&B from the early-to-mid 2000s. Prince LDJ even said on social media that his previous single, “Can I Have Ya Number?,” would have been a hit in 2005, and he posted his song with music video clips from R&B heartthrobs Omarion and Chris Brown. I think he’s spot on because those two ruled the radio in 2005 with songs about shooting their shot and dealing with heartbreak. Prince LDJ’s sound fits right in. If I didn’t know he was a new artist, I’d think his songs were released during my high school era and I somehow missed it.
But it is 2026, and Prince LDJ is working to establish himself as a voice that’s here to stay in R&B. He has already received radio support and chart recognition in the U.S. and abroad, while sharing stages with acts including The Delfonics, Meli’sa Morgan and Christopher Williams. His debut EP, Unfinished Business, was released September 4th. Hear his latest single here.
