(November 17, 2023) For the past several years, soul music fans have been getting to know BJ The Chicago Kid, one of the bright young stars who has been successfully bridging old school and new school music. And on his latest album, Gravy (named after a slang for soul music), BJ teams with producer Yeti Beats to deliver a wonderful collection of collaborations with other emerging stars like Coco Jones and Cory Henry, along with more established stars Andra Day and Robert Glasper.
But for the first single from the album, BJ brings in a musical legend, Earth Wind & Fire’s tenor lead Philip Bailey, on a song that would have fit just as nicely on EWF’s I Am in 1979 as it does on Gravy in 2023. With a light arrangement and familiar “ba da ba” harmonies, “Never Change” is a timeless ballad that the two artist make absolutely fresh.
Check out “Never Change” below and enjoy this unexpected teaming with us.
