First Listen: Petawane gives two sides of the groove on “When We Are Alone”

(September 28, 2026) Petawane gives couples a choice with his latest song, “When We Are Alone.” The tune comes in two versions: There’s the steppers version for those times when the pair want the spotlight to shine on them on the dance floor, and there’s neo-soul version for when the couple is really alone.

Both versions of “When We Are Alone” place Petawane in the same scenario with the focus of two people fixed exclusively on each other. The words are the same, but the arrangement and the vibe set off by Petawane’s vocal performance is 180. His energy matches the dance floor on the stepper’s version. He’s upbeat and ready for a night on the town with his lady. They may be surrounded by hundreds of people in the club, but whether they’re sitting at a table or stepping on the dance floor, they are totally alone.

De’Angelo would have approved of the way Petawane slows it down and paints a vocal picture of drawing his lady close on the neo-soul version. We get a sensually funky bass lane, call and response from backing vocals, a romantic foundation set by the drums and percussion as Petawane slides into an intimate and conversational flow on his vocals. The setting is different and everything about this cut matches the classy eroticism. Check out Petawane’s two versions of “When We Are Alone” here.
