(February 17, 2026) The first time I heard vocalist Petawane (pronounced Pee-tah-wayne), he was singing a song by The Dells to a live audience and sounded good. Anyone who can successfully sing songs originally belted out by The Dells’ lead singer Marvin Junior is worthy of a listening ear. Petawane’s soulful voice has gained him many listening ears over the years. As a child coming up in Harlem, he sang for friends and family and, as an adult, he has released a number of solo singles. Also, since 2024, he’s been the lead singer of Philly Soul group Double Exposure, best known for their 70’s disco hit “Ten Percent.”
Petawane’s latest solo single is a break-up song but it’s not your typical heartbreak tune. As we know, most heartbreak songs are filled with regret, a trail of “shoulda, woulda, coulda” scenarios, and the whole “woe is me” attitude. On the contrary, Petawane’s song is called “I’m Good,” and he says itspeaks from the other side of heartbreak – where healing has replaced hurt and clarity has replaced confusion. Written by his songwriting collective JLMT, the lyrics paint him as a man who is not bitter but is at peace with the end of his relationship, viewing it as a fresh start that allows positive energy to flow. That’s why he can honestly say, “I’m good.”
“I’m Good” has a catchy, radio-friendly beat that you can nod your head to, anchored by something familiar – a hip hop-flavored sample of “That’s the Way (I Like It)” by KC & the Sunshine Band. Check it out here, and cheers to positive energy!
