First Listen: Pauli Carman of Champaign returns with new music

(June 23, 2026) We became big fans of singer and songwriter Pauli Carman back in the early 80s when he broke out as the lead singer of R&B group Champaign, with a string of hits like “How ‘Bout Us,” “Try Again,” and “Off And On Love.” And after Champaign – but before rejoining the group – he scored a big his with “Dial My Number.”

It’s been a few years since we’ve heard new music from Pauli, but we’re glad he is back in our lives with a new single helmed by veteran producer Preston Glass. “I Can’t Let You Go” is a tender ballad about a man who fears his love has come to an end, but isn’t ready to say goodbye.

The song, which is the first single from Carman’s upcoming album (Premium Grade Productions / Soul Music Records) is a welcome return for the singer, who sounds as engaging now as he did when we were all a lot younger. We can’t wait to hear the rest of the disc.
