First Listen: Legendary Chic singer Norma Jean Wright sings an “Ode To Disco”

(July 17, 2026) Singer extraordinaire Norma Jean Wright will forever be remembered as the original lead singer of the pioneering dance group Chic. But since leaving the group in the late 70s, Wright has fashioned a solid solo career both in the studio and onstage, performing for adoring fans around the world.

On her newest single, Wright revisits the heart of the disco era with a “musical love letter” to the people and places of the late 70s and early 80s. “Ode To Disco” has the four-on-the-floor sound of that musically unique time, and namechecks everything from The Bee Gees and Donna Summer to Studio 54 and The Loft.

Wright’s rich vocals highlight the song nicely, giving a performance that will take a lot of SoulTrackers back to the day of powerful lead singers and lush arrangements calling us to the dancefloor. Kudos to longtime Wright collaborator Bert Price for the authentic production on the single.

Check out “Ode To Disco” below, and get ready to smile.
