(August 20, 2025) Welsh singer Nia Wyn is new to us at SoulTracks, but she is musically an old soul. Influenced by the 60s and 70s sounds of Motown, Stax and PIR, Nia applies her attractive, flexible voice to songs that have the feel of instant, timeless soul classics.
For her latest single, Nia gives that old school voice to challenges of today. She tells us, “I wanted to write a song that could be both about a toxic relationship, and also how I often feel about the music industry. From conversations with other artists I know that this is a common experience – the highs and the very lows of making music and how it can make or break self-esteem. I had been listening to a lot of 60s r&b and lowrider tunes, and felt inspired to write something that felt both slow and sad, but also something you could tap your feet to.”
Mission accomplished for Wyn, who expresses the frustration of a complicated relationship in front of an authentic R&B arrangement – a terrific backdrop for her unique vocal stylings.
