First Listen: Nezsa knows she “Should Have Cared”

(May 27, 2024) Nezsa’s new single :”Should Have Cared” is about looking back in hindsight and regretting that she did not have foresight – or that she didn’t listen to those who walked the same path and made the same missteps.

The lyrics that this Nigerian born and Toronto based singer/songwriter penned on this self-reflective single could be said by anyone who leapt into situations before realizing that they were jumping into rock bottom.

The tune finds Nezsa taking the 30,000 feet view of her life and taking stock of the familial advice ignored and the bad relationships that she had. She understands that perhaps she should have cared more about the important relationships or in understanding the consequences of making what appears to be the easy decision. It feels good in the short term, but the returns diminish over time.

“Should Have Cared” has the sound of an intimate apology to the people who cared about her enough to warn her about the path she was headed down. But it’s also an apology to herself. It’s an acknowledgment that forgiving herself is key to moving on.

Nezsa calls herself an alternative R&B artist, and “Should Have Cared” contains a mixture of Spanish guitars and African inspired percussion that works quite nicely. Check out Nezsa’s “Should Have Cared” here.
