(July 15, 2026) Have you ever longed for “the one who got away”? It’s no secret that many have. Countless factors like bad timing, words left unsaid, or life changes can cause people to be separated from the one their heart beats for. But every broken heart hopes to find its rhythm again.
That feeling is explored in a new song called “See You Again” by Nate Simpson. The British R&B/soul singer says his latest single is about “reconnecting with someone you’ve never truly let go of…rediscovering a connection that never faded.” Co-written by Cordell Mosteller, the opening lyrics of “See You Again” describe the longing the singer has for his special someone: “I woke up thinking about you / What I wouldn’t do to be where you are.” Wearing his heart on his sleeve, Nate also makes clear that the distance hasn’t drained his love, only made it stronger.
Inspired by soul greats like Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, and Luther Vandross, Nate describes “See You Again” as a song that is “rooted in the classic soul tradition” while possessing a modern feel. To my ear, “See You Again” sounds like a pleasant combination of 90s/2000s R&B (i.e., Musiq Soulchild and Maxwell) and today’s Afrobeats. Over the years, Nate has gained the reputation of being “one of the UK’s most compelling live artists,” and has portrayed legends like Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, and Nat “King” Cole on stage. But in his music, you hear Nate Simpson being himself, not anyone else.
