(October 23, 2019) Soprano sax master Najee has earned a reputation in the contemporary jazz world as one of the most melodic saxophonists out there. That explains why soul singers line up to duet with this New York born jazz legend. And vocalist Kenny Lattimore also knows how to work well with others. Lattimore’s and Chante Moore released a pair of well-received duet albums in the 2000s, and he has been a popular guest vocalist for many contemporary jazz artists.
Lattimore is one of several artists who collaborate with Najee on the sax man’s latest album Center of the Heart, which is due to be released in November. The album’s lead single is an up-tempo instrumental titled “Face to Face” that pairs Najee with fellow saxophonist Darren Rahn.
We have a sneak preview of “Better,” that pairs Lattimore and Najee. The tune is a mid-tempo track where Lattimore deploys his silky tenor to tell the story of a man who knows what he has, and even when things hit a rut, he’s going to find a way to dig out. The musical conversation between Najee and Lattimore make it clear that “Better” is a duet. Check it out here.
