First Listen: Munchoo longs for “Better Days”

Political unrest, misunderstandings, and people struggling for answers and peace; in a world where the absurd is the status quo and feelings are running hot in all directions, we look for ways to constructively express ourselves, a sentiment felt and heard in “City Cry,” an angst-filled plea created by the evolving funk and soul artist known as Munchoo (pronounced Mun-ch-oh).

A performer and lyricist who’s been mentored by Fantasia and influenced by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Prince and James Brown, Munchoo made “City Cry” to help channel the emotions people are having about what’s going on; “People need to wake up, folks need to rise up/we need a revolution, it’s time for a change.”

With fiery, pleading vocals over a musical foundation of keys and strings, “City Cry” showcases the right amount of fervor and focus to earn a spot in rotation while stoking curiosity about what Munchoo is marinating on for the next groove.
