Gregory Porter helps Moby find “Heart”

gregoryporterbw

(July 7, 2023) Singer and songwriter extraordinaire Gregory Porter has been a regular on these pages every since his auspicious debut album Water. And over the years he has become a go-to guest vocalist for musicians of various genres and styles, with Porter’s deep, expressive baritone enhancing sometimes ordinary songs and turning them into something special.

But there is nothing ordinary about Porter’s new collaboration with DJ and multi-instrumentatist Moby, on “In My Heart (Resound NYC Version).” The two reimagine a two decade old Moby song and amp it up to 11, with full orchestra and choir, turning a simple prayer (“Lord I want to be up in my heart“) into a mesmerizing, expansive exclamation that is chill-inducing in its beauty.

This unlikely combination is big and memorable. And you can consider this your first visit to church today. Check it out below.
