(October 17, 2023) Miriam Nyarko has never taken her many abilities for granted and has given God all the credit. When not showcasing her musical strengths, Nyarko performs in theatre (touring with the Royal Shakespeare Company), and movies (the recent premiere of Blackwool at the Tribeca Festival). The U.K. based talent was introduced with the single “Step by Step” in 2020 before taking an absolute artistic plunge.
Nyarko’s emphatic statement of faith drives her consistent vision as a singer/songwriter. Her debut EP, The Journey, took significant time in the creative process before she decided on just four tracks. To best pinpoint the intention behind The Journey, Nyarko states: “I feel like these four songs are the most accurate and vulnerable. I think if you dwell on something for too long, you encounter the risk of staying stagnant when seeking perfection.”
From The Journey (AFUA Sounds), Nyarko returns to First Listen with “Lifeline,” the follow-up to “Built on You.” In staying firm with themes of struggles yet winning those battles through God’s strength, “Lifeline” expresses contemporary praise and worship no matter what doubts arise: “Holy Spirit take the wheel and drive me to my destination.”
There are several scriptural notations (Psalms 23:6, Galatians 6:2) solidifying Nyarko’s connection to her genuine beliefs. The mix of R&B and gospel with elegant Afropop rhythms under Samuel Jinadu’s production further accentuate Nyarko’s inviting vocal tone and overall messages. Thanks to Nyarko for blessing those who appreciate her artistic direction and an encourager to those seeking God in an ever-changing journey of life’s obstacles. Listen up!
