First Listen: Menoosha loves it when you’re “Touching My Hair”

(August 4, 2019) Airs About Hair, the upcoming album by Menoosha, a Cameroon native who is based in Germany and France, is a concept hair album. This can be a stressful topic for black women who live in Europe or North America. This topic has been addressed in documentaries, books, movies, TV series and songs.

The singer says that the album focuses on the emotional connection that she has with her hair, as well as other stories. To look at pictures of Menoosha is to realize that she is not defined by a single hair style. The promotional materials promoting “Touching My Hair,” the single featured in this First Listen, shows Menoosha face crowned by a beautiful Afro. But other photos show her sporting curls, and cornrows. That is a hint that the stories on this concept album are as varied as the hair styles that Menoosha rocks.

“Touching My Hair,” is a neo-soul cut both in its arrangement and its spirit. The song tells the story of a woman having her hair touched as an expression of love and desire instead of curiosity. “Touching My Hair” is a beautiful song that sets a beautiful scene of two people sharing a quiet moment in nature, and finding beauty in the place they are in, as well as each other – from head to toe.
