(March 20, 2026) Say the name “Maysa” to a music fan, and a warm smile is likely to come to their face. Maysa Leak has been an integral part of our musical lives for nearly four decades, first as part of the collective Incognito and then as a top-tier solo artist, and in the process she has become the most awarded female vocalist in the history of the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards.
For her newest single, Maysa courageously takes on a classic – the iconic 1979 collaboration between The Crusaders and Randy Crawford, “Street Life.” Performing in front of the full-bodied production of longtime collaborator Chris “Big Dog” Davis (and tasty guitar work from JJ Sansaverino), Maysa shines again, delivering an upbeat, expressive performance that reminds us of the dichotomy that this song has always brought — a joyous, jazzy expression on top of lyrical themes of grit and ambition.
“Street Life” is another triumph in a career of triumphs for Maysa, and we’re proud to present it as our new SoulTracks First Listen. Check it out below.
