She’s the most awarded female artist in the history of the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards, and it doesn’t overstate it to say she is one of the most accomplished singers of her generation. So, it’s kind of a big deal for us whenever we hear new music from the legendary Maysa Leak.
Since she started her own Blue Velvet Soul Records label, Maysa has been releasing one tasty single after another. And now, on the heels of her tremendous album, Music For Your Soul, she has issued a two-sided single that should get her fans cheering again. “Beautiful” is a groove-filled midtempo written by David P. Stevens, which she tells us is “about getting back to the souls we were born with, remembering how beautiful we all truly are.” It is a song of encouragement, made all the more powerful by that voice.
“Runnin’ From Myself” was self-penned by Maysa, with the help of longtime ST fave Jamie Jones of All-4-One. It is a song about how we sometimes sabotage our dreams and procrastinate, failing to do what we need to do to move forward.
