Mississippi native Maurice Smith follows the sensual, soulful model created by artists like Marvin Gaye a generation ago, and you can hear elements of classic soul in his brand of contemporary R&B. A singer who has worked the grind in Los Angeles such artists as Beyonce, Seal, LeAnn Rimes, The Mary Jane Girls and Sy Smith, Maurice is ready to move to the front now with debut EP, Private Use Only Vol. 1, due on May 12. The first single, “One Kiss,” was a hit and introduced Maurice to a national audience.
